home > media center > release 06-02-03 Foundation Honors Senator Holl Harrisburg, PA - June 2, 2003 - The Pennsylvania Higher Education Foundation today announced that a $2,500 scholarship honoring former Senator Edwin G. Holl has been established at Ursinus College, to be awarded to a North Penn High School graduate who demonstrates leadership and exemplary commitment to community service. The scholarship was established in recognition of Holl's 9 years of leadership as a member of the Board of Directors for the Pennsylvania Higher Education Assistance Agency (PHEAA). Senator Holl served the people of Pennsylvania for more than four decades in the Pennsylvania General Assembly, beginning with his election to the House of Representatives in 1961 and continuing with his election to the Senate of Pennsylvania in 1967. He served as the Chairman of the Senate Banking and Insurance Committee and Vice Chairman of the Intergovernmental Affairs Committee as well as a member of the Appropriations Committee, Law and Justice Committee and Rules and Executive Nominations Committee. "Senator Holl has generously given of his time and talents throughout his career," said President and CEO of the Foundation, Michael H. Hershock. "On behalf of the financial aid community, including countless students and their families, I would like to thank Senator Holl for his selfless contributions and assistance in making higher education a reachable goal for so many." Senator Holl was just as dedicated to his local community, having served as a member and past president of the Lansdale Lions Club, past president of the Lansdale Youth Council, founding president of the Trustee North Penn YMCA and Chairman of the Board of the Valley Forge Council of the Boy Scouts of American. He also served as a commissioner on the Historical and Museum Commission and the Pennsylvania Council of the Arts. The Pennsylvania Wing of the Civil Air Patrol recognized his long service and support of their organization by renaming its annual Cadet of the Year Award in his honor. They also presented Senator Holl with the Distinguished Service Award and Medal for Distinguished Performance of Outstanding Service. Holl retired from the Senate of Pennsylvania and the PHEAA Board of Directors last year. |
