Foundation Honors Representative Colafella
Scholarship Established at the Community College of Beaver County

Harrisburg, PA - June 2, 2003 - The Pennsylvania Higher Education Foundation today announced that a $2,500 scholarship honoring former State Representative Nicholas A. Colafella has been established at the Community College of Beaver County, where he served as a College Administrator. The scholarship is to be used to benefit a nursing student who demonstrates financial need.

The scholarship was established in recognition of Colafella's two decades of thoughtful leadership as a member of the Board of Directors for the Pennsylvania Higher Education Assistance Agency (PHEAA). He also served as a member of the House Education Committee, as the Democratic Subcommittee Chairman of Higher Education, the Democratic Chairman of the House Education Committee and a member of the State Board of Education. His dedication was recognized by the College and University Public Relations Association of Pennsylvania, naming him Outstanding Legislator of the Year in 1992.

"Nick Colafella has been a true champion of higher education," said President and CEO of the Foundation, Michael H. Hershock. "He devoted his time and talents to committees and councils in which he made a difference in the education community, making postsecondary education accessible and affordable to students and families of all economic backgrounds. He is an inspiration to all of us."

Representative Colafella retired last year from the Pennsylvania House of Representatives and the PHEAA Board of Directors.
